Monocrystalline panels are cut from a single silicon crystal, which gives them a higher efficiency rating — typically 20-22% versus 16-18% for polycrystalline. That means more power from the same roof area, which matters most when your available space is limited.
Polycrystalline panels are generally cheaper to manufacture, and that saving is passed on at purchase. If you have generous roof space and want to maximise capacity per naira spent, polycrystalline is often the more economical route.
Nigeria's climate matters here. Monocrystalline panels typically hold their output better as temperatures climb, which is a real advantage during the hottest months in states like Kano or Sokoto.
Monocrystalline cells have a uniform black finish; polycrystalline cells have a distinctive blue, speckled look. Purely cosmetic, but it matters to some homeowners.
For most Lagos and Southern Nigeria rooftops, where space is tight and heat is high, we lean monocrystalline. For larger compounds with room to spare, polycrystalline often delivers better value.
